I have to say that the Viart restraint spending time getting a great product improved and stable in the light of all these demands over many weeks shows their professionalism.
Perhaps a user restraint now makes sense to allow them to concentrate on what they do best.
For my part, I would like to see effort prioritized on detail - consistencies; and on getting existing featured improved.
Well done Anjula and colleagues.

Here Here. Make 3.6 bullet proof and then move forward with new features.

I am glad that ViArt has now been upgraded to 3.6. There were some features that we needed.
When I look at the Admin | System | System Upgrade it still says that we are on the latest version. I was hoping that the system would be able to automatically upgrade us to 3.6 as it alludes in the manual.
Any suggestions from the group?

Seano, if you look a little bit more carefully at the instructions, there's a procedure you're missing.
You must upload all of the new files to your site (after backing up of course). Then, once you go into your admin panel and click on the system upgrade, it will be available for you. You must have the files installed first.

Thank you! I missed that step!

I know that this question really belongs in the installation threads but I was hoping I could get a bit more guidance. After reading the manual, it is not clear to me where on my server I would upload 3.6 to so that it didn't override the files that are already there and still perform the automatic upgrade.
Sorry for the basic question but this is the first time that we have upgraded ViArt so I want to make sure that we do it correctly.

One thing i'd love to see overall......
Is a simple "upgrade" package..just the required files to transfer over....
just d/l the 3.6 and unzipped...now have to go through the whole structure and remove all the extra's photos/ads/news/events/ etc etc before I can move over
.... just the required files would be so simple :))
just a thought viart :)

second that "thebirdman"
This is first time upgrading and woooow. This process could have been a lost less complicated if only the necessary files were provided in and update pack.
Still developing the site so we decided do it now than when the site is complete.
But Viart Dev Team please look into just create and update pack with just the necessary files.

Am I missing something here?
I have to download the files to my system, upload them to my website and overwrite my existing files, and THEN I can run the upgrade?
Is this the steps in the process?
According to the "Manual" it is all automatically checked and applied. I have read the section over and over and I see nowhere where is states that I have to upload the files to my server to be able to upgrade.
Am I not reading the right instructions?

Hi!
Have anyone finished the upgrading procedure with a multisite setup? Is any keypoints, or common mistakes?

BestFit! if You completly uploaded the new files, You need to login to the admin, and in the admin menĂ¼ select the system upgrade... A button will be shown: Update the DB to 3.6 (or somtehing similar). Click, and wait. If success, You are ready! :)

Done, that and running version 3.6.
I was just surprised that it required ME to upload files and THEN to run the update to get it installed.
I have worked with probably 10-12 different carts over the years and almost everyone of them works like this:
1) press the "check for updates" (or similar) button.
2) IT checks the manufacturers websites for the update and downloads the updates to my system automatically.
3) then it runs the update to get it to the latest version.
I have never had to
1) download the files,
2) un-compress them,
3) upload them to my website,
4) replace the main login script (va_definitions) with the copy that I hopefully saved before I began so I can log back into the admin of the site. (small rant, but still un-believable)
5) log back in and then STILL have to push the "Update" button to get the latest version applied.
6) Repeat the process each and every time there is an update to the software.
7) AND you have to do all of that while your site is online because there is not a way to closed it for maintenance.
All of that only took 2 attempts to get right.
I will not post anymore to this thread because it has long since gotten away from the topic that started it.

With regard to site down for maintenance.
I usually create a new directory and direct the domain for my shop to the new directory temporarily and stick up a maintenance message on the home page.
I then reaplace all files on the original directory and when happy all files have been uploaded correctly direct the domain back to this directory.
Or the other option is you have enough room on your server is to basically create a copy of the original directory then overwrite the copy directory with the new files whilst leaving the original site running.
Then either rename the 2 directorys so the live site reverts to the correct directory.
