I'm using a php script for a web site where visitors to the site can keyword search to find specific files. I'd like the vistors to pay for files before they can view them. So, I'm looking for a solution that can see the number searched multiply that by a set dollar amount, send the vistitor to pay that amount via Paypal, and return the visitor to a protected page to view the document in a unique session.

We can propose you to set this up as a download product so users could search the product by keyword, find it, see the set price and go to checkout where they could select PayPal. Then the e-mail will be issued with download links to this product, additionally users could see the links from their user_home on your site. To make the checkout pages protected you will need to install SSL certificate to your server.
