Hi I am new to ViArt and have spent about three days researching the manuals and feature. It looks like an amazing deal and I am very excited to try it out so I can make a final decision about purchasing the program, but I can't seem to get it installed correctly.
I have tried to upload several times using the automatic upload feature on this site and every time it tells me I have provided an incorrect path. Finally I downloaded the files and tried to FTP them through Dreamweaver three times and made sure the includes folder was uploaded in Binary mode but I am still getting a fatal error referencing corrupt files in the includes directory:
"Fatal error: Corrupted encoded data detected in /home/ninlives/public_html/shopnew/includes/va_functions.php on line 0"
It is version 3.2 I am trying to install and I am on a Linux server with Bluehost, PHP version 4
If anyone has any ideas to try I would greatly appreciate it! I emailed support on Thursday and I was wondering what the typical response time is? I know it's the weekend but I am trying to get this up and running while I have time to explore it :)
Thanks!
Amanda

Hi Amanda
I not a Viart moderator, but each time I have encountered this it has been because the files have not been uploaded in binary. I also had little luck with the automatic upload. Download the zip file and extract it to any easy to find directory.
Here's how I did it:
I wiped the whole original Viart installation off. I used CuteFTP (you can download a free copy) to upload the Viart files to the root of my website.
When you upload using ftp, ensure that before you do you select binary. In cuteftp it is in Files-->Uploads.
Change the permissions in all the image folders and create a database. When you call up your website, you will reach the installation page and follow the instructions.
Hope this helps.

Hi Kim!
Thanks, this helps I will wipe what I have and try CuteFTP. Dreamweaver is a real PITA when it come to changing upload modes.
One other thing, I am a complete novice when it comes to manually setting up a database, are there any tutorials you'd recommend for that?

Hi Amanda
You can go to your control panel at your host. If it is cpanel, go to mysql databases. Go through the process of making a new database... give it a name. Once you have created the database, you will have to create a user. Give your user a name, say Amanda_viart (no spaces, use underline) and a password.
OK now you have a database and a user. the next step is to connect them. If you look further down the page you will find 2 dropdown boxes, which allow you to add your user to your database. Put your new username and database in the boxes and click on submit... thats it, you have created your database.
To install viart you will need the above information, and also the server name of your host. that is all.
Apparently there is also a database wizard on Bluehost which makes life easier. The instruction (step by step) can also be found in your cpanel help.
