Right now, the SMS out of the box feature is not enabled..or doesn't function.
Here's what I'm seeing...
That we must sign up for a gateway that provides this service, correct?
I suppose what I'm getting at is that to send these, all you really need is to direct text to a certain address such as ##########@messaging.sprint.com for sprint, and *@vtext.com for verizon, and so forth. Therefore, what I'm suggesting is a simple solution built on to Viart that would allow us to utilize the feature through our hosting provider mail feature to these numbers. It would make things much easier and affordable.

Dan
Perhaps if you go into Orders > Order Statuses you can set up the confirmation email to the customer and use the Bcc address (for example for new orders) to your hosting provider mailbox that sends to your SMS?

I see what you're talking about, however, this should be something Viart can do automated.
I was just explaining how the set up would work.

If anyone else is interested, I'm going to be doing some custom work to integrate a solution.

Alright.
As far as sms, it should be a feature directly within Viart. SMS Messaging works in a simple way that can be easily implemented into ViArt.
when sending a message to a phone, you need two things in the way that I'm thinking of:
1.) phone number
2.) cell phone provider's emailing address.
for example, if you had a phone number with sprint, it would send to:
xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com
If we could set up a static table to hold cell phone providors suffix and then for the user, have them select their providor from a list and enter their cell phone number.
this would be the easiest way to implement this, and I can list the providors information if needed.

Hi Dan,
I think the solution in the UK is going to be different ot that in the USA,
Our carriers do not support the above, so we are having to use a gateway called Dynmark / e-txt

if someone in ur country sends a text message to an email address... when the person checks their email, they will receive the text message format - that's the format you need to use to send it back out. It's how the cell phones work. Are you really sure yours doesn't work that way?

Hey Dan,
I just came across your SMS solution. Great idea. I currently need an affordable solution. Any luck with Viart implementing this or did you do some customer work on it?
