I really like the new sliders feature! Thanks Viart for this. I'm not sure if I understand them enough yet to apply to my site.
I see in the announcement early on that sliders seem to be made for a category rather than an individual product so you can land on a product page and have a specific slider for just that product. looks to me like a single slider applies to a more generic category like 'Furniture' rather than a specific 'Oak Table'. I want a slider for the 12 Oak tables I sell, so to speak.
My products have to be in general Categories like 'Honda Goldwing', 'Victory Vision', 'Harley Davidson' and so on at the top level, and customers dig in from there for products for that category that work with a particular kind of helmet, for example 'Full Face', 'Open Face', 'Modular', etc.
I'd like to be able to apply sliders to each sub-category, to deal with the appropriate product for a particular helmet style.
So it seems that I'd make top level categories for the motorcycle itself, then maybe show a particular slider for each that contains a sampling of images for each helmet type, then a sub-category slide for each helmet style.
My real question is this: It seems that the slider is designed to apply to a particular category, am I missing the way to apply it to each individual product?
Thanks for any tips,

It would be best if you would open a Support Ticket and asked for help from that Viart Support team.
They would gladly help

Hello Ed,
Right now slider developed as global block to show for all categories, products, etc.
But I think it wouldn't be too diffilcut to add some additional settings so you can specify in what categories slider should be shown.
Thanks,

Viart seems to want us to pay more to get sliders added to product details pages, rather than being limited to only categories. My thinking was that sliders make more sense for individual discrete products than a category of products, like 'Televisions'. If sliders for products is a good idea, then sliders for PRODUCTS is even a better idea.
I'll share the cost with 4 other people if anyone agrees that this is a good idea. Viart quoted me 200.00 to do the work. My 50 bucks is in my pocket waiting...

Sorry but you didn't understand what we were offering. Sliders is a global module, its purpose is running a slideshow on the shop pages. Nowadays you can see it a lot, usually on the main page, for example like here http://www.regalbedandbath.com. There are no limitations how to use this module, with what pictures or links.
What you're asking for is having an individual Slider per specific product. It is not possible because you can't have an individual product's layout, all products use CMS > Pages Layouts > Products Details Page layout. So we offered to create a possibility where you can assign individual product layout, similar to how it works for categories: http://www.viart.com/img/custom_layout.jpg
If this is something you wish to pursue we are ready to help.

I get the idea of the intended purpose of the slider, though Viart makes it VERY difficult to understand new features. You tell me here that it is a global feature, but you only give examples for a category use.
I think you do NOT get the idea I'm trying to discuss, which is that products need a slider too. Current product images are clumsy and frankly, users do not like fiddling with picture controls, they just want to see the products pictures easily.
If the individual product layout can be used with specific images (as is current), I can't see why the standard layout can't be coded to use a specific slider group.
I am trying to get others to understand this so we can get it done. I'm on YOUR side to make Viart the best.
It might be best if someone with good communication skills will offer a tutorial on the current sliders.

Another awesome function of a slider for individual products would be for related items. This way you could have many related items in the same amount of page real estate.
