Can ViArts system handle weight AND dimension for a product? For instance the shipping companies like UPS & FedEx require both weight and box dimensions for shipping, how do i set this up?

This feature needs custom programming. Please contact us for details.

If this feature needs custom programming, why do you offer something that requires it, but no functionality to support it? You're allowing half of the system to work, so I dont' see this as a customization?

Denis,
Can you please explain how the ups weight and dimension works or not works in viart, and what custom programming are you referring to, what would be needed, and what is cost?

The crux of an online store IS shipping.
Without an intelligent shipping module you are overcharging your customer.
With smart shipping methods and costs you are gaining and retaining customers.

Shipping companies only require dimennsions if you:
1) Exceed their allowable package size
All carriers have a length, usually 60" and an overall size limitation of 165 inches (length + girth, where girth is 2 x width plus 2 x height). If you package is larger than these sizes, you will need to add a standard surcharge to thsi product.
2) Below standard density for a product.
Carriers use a formula, l" x w" x h" / 194 = diminsional weight in lbs, or l_cm x w_cm x h_cm / 6000 - dimensional weight in kg. If you packages are less than this size, you should calculate the domensional weight yourself and enter it into the weight field in the product table.
The basic shipping system Viart supplies is reasonably good. A few things that would make it as good as the rest:
- %discount & handling calculations for realtime shipping methods
- flat rate shipping for items where lesser of flat rate or weight is used. (i.e client buys a CD, flat rate shipping $4. Client buys 2 flat rate =$8, weight shipping =4 therefor customer is charged 4.
- lowest coast carrier is selected by default at checkout (most customers o through Ooops loop - "Choose a shipper" - a MAJOR contributor to abandonment.
