I noticed the default product search is only looking at product titles which is useless if your keywords are mostly in the product descriptions. Short of having really long titles for every product this is not going to work!
Any advice on how I can customize his block to look in the descriptions also?

I have tried to put the advanced search code in a custom block which did not work, does anyone know if it's possible to create a second version of the normal search as a custom block and include some of the advanced option as hidden form fields with their values checked?

Please Please? Any clues? This is a total deal breaker for me it makes the entire cart useless and I've already put alot of time into customizing templates and learning my way around.
My last email to support was a week ago and I still have no answer.
I will be more than happy to pay if anyone can help with this mod!!!

Hello,
To insert an advanced search feature into the custom block you are to open the 'admin_search.html' file from the /templates/admin folder, copy an appropriate code and insert it into your custom block.
Also, you can always contact our support team at support@viart.com with this request and we will do this work for you for an extra fee.
With regards,

Searching descriptions
Do you care to share this?
It would be very much appreciated if you can

Anjula, I appreciate the answer, but it was very vague and I can't see how this will work. I've spent yet another 3 hours working on this and it seems like another dead end to me.
Is this something that can be included in 3.3? It strikes me as odd to only search titles?!
Chris do you know of someone who can program this? If so I'd love to be able to share the cost! I am trying to make my final decision on which cart to purchase and ViArt may loose out because of this and lack of detailed documentation or support community.

it appears there may be a problem with running PHP code in custom blocks. I do have the option turned on in the global settings but when I copy and paste the code you suggest many of the fields are missing and button actions do not appear to execute.

Hi AmandaK
I regret my discipline is marketing, not technical - I understand html, that's all. I don't have any coding contacts.
I believe that it is probably time for the search function to be upgraded in any case and, no doubt, Viart have it on the 'to do' list?
One additional typical function is to offer the user the choices:
Search any word
Search all words
Search exact phrase.
But, at least for now, it would be good to get answers to your questions - I remain very interested in your progress.

I too wish the search function looked at the descriptions and meta tags by default. Having to put all the keywords in the titles is messy and undesireable.

My work around at the moment if I decide to go with ViArt will be to remove the Product Title form displaying in the porduct details, list, search and car pages with custom templates for each area. The tricky part being editing the breadcrumb structure and replacing the "product title tag" with the product code" tag where necessary.
Obviously this is a highly undesirable work around, so if anyone thinks of anything simpler I would love it is you could share!!!
