Visit the Customization Forum and read 'Shipping Enhancements'.
I would like to see a more sophisticated shipping module AND a 'shipping label' printing module.
read more there.

From my limited experience it seems shipping variables are truely customizable through use of external scripts, work in progress for me but there seems to be no limitations

I am not sure I follow. External scripts? I am not too technical.
Kindly elaborate please.

You can define shipping values via an external php script, for example I define geographic shipping zones within the UK eg ... England, Scotland, Wales.
Each of these zones has a different shipping charge based on the product type and postcode location
Yon can also charge carriage based on "product", "product type", "product_category" and many other variables, most of which are already in the shipping array

Ben, when you say external scripts, do you mean additional php programming beyond the existing ViArt code?
There is a textbox to call external php script "PHP External Library"

One of the main issues with my shop is I have no standard qty. Some products can be ordered as follows 25,50,75,100,125 etc.
Another one is ordered as follows 50,100,250,500,1000 etc.
Next challenge is that the number of boxes depends on the qty ordered, some fit in 1 small box, some in 1 medium box, some qty in 2 large boxes, other qty fits in 1 large and 1 small box. Many combination's.
Where do place this critical info to send to the shipping companies? There is no place on viart to tie qty to the number of boxes and the weight associated with each qty.
I hope I am making sense here.

Hi foxtrotdomains
Sounds like a challenge, think some volumetric shipping parameters we added in the 3.6 release ? vague memory as I have not personally ventured towards the new release yet

I still don't feel this issue has been resolved. Imagine a great shipping module with auto printing of shipping lables. That would be very nice.
By the way I have a quote from ViArt on enhancing the shipping module for me; $300.
I am looking for others that would be interested in this to join and reduce our cost per user.
