"Success with Warning"
Has anyone else had this problem with PayPal Pro/ViArt?
1. I am based in USA, but could be true elsewhere
2. The approval for many but not all transactions in US, Canada, and UK (and maybe others) require a province abbreviation rather than full name (for example must use QB, not Quebec)
3. My PayPal security settings are as loose as possible so orders are more likely to go through.
4. I have a message on my checkout page to put in the province abbreviation but some people don't see it. So they get "success with warning". ViArt recognizes it as a failure, but it goes through PayPal and charges the card.
The obvious solution is dropdown provinces for at least some countries. Until then, I'd like to find a way to get ViArt to recognize "success with warning" as PAID status.
Any ideas?
thanks, Greg

Fixed by ViArt support, so "success with warning" error from PayPal pro will be treated as paid by the ViArt cart... I am still using V3.5. In case anyone else has PayPal Pro and this problem, I think they are waiting for me to confirm it works before making a bug fix for this in V3.6.

Hello Greg
I use PayPal Pro in the UK - a different set up to the North America version.
I only take orders from Eu Countries for practical reasons of distribution.
Fortunately this is not an issue here; PayPal UK does not require such an abbreviation and perhaps this is an issue working with PayPal Pro Internationally.
Still, glad you have the matter resolved

Hi Chris,
PayPal told me that this approval protocol (I forget what they call it) is now used for more than 90% of all USA online card transactions, over 50% of Canadian transactions, and a small but growing proportion of UK transactions.
The protocol requires proper country and state codes. I set all my security settings in PayPal Pro as loose as they allow, since I have not so far had a problem with card fraud, and this makes a card more likely to go through. But it also gives the "success with warning" error that was confusing the cart.
I think PayPal pro is only available in the US and UK? And of course it may be differently set up in the two countries.
Thanks for letting me know you're on PayPal Pro. I really like it, because any time I get an order I can immediately charge the new balance on the PayPal debit card, for instance to pay for a drop-ship order. Also it has a splendid interface with the Postal Service and makes labels really easy.

Yes, Greg - it is the simple and fast way we can take credit card payments within the Viart shop that is so good.
I have not yet heard anything from PayPal UK about Country and State codes - you can imagine how much of an isue this can be across the EU countries, let alone worldwide, given the variation in 'state' specifications country to country.
Even without this, PayPal tries to alert us to potential threats - and, with an additional independent address checking service here, we also have virtually no fraud.
It would take a lot to prise me away from PayPal especially now that we qualify for the lowest fee level.
Our volume is now too much to use PayPal postage service. We have a UK Royal Mail licence and have paid Viart to create Royal Mail licenced address lables in the same way that it can create packing slips.
Best wishes
Chris

Hi Chris,
I'd love to have a look at your site, and see what features you are using. Would you mind putting down your domain name? (Mine is a much smaller operation, just a few products, visionimprovementcenter.com)
I appreciate your always-upbeat presence on this forum!
