I have a very unusual request with some of my products:
I manufacture presentation folders, the price of these folders depends on the stock grade, the style of folder, the number of pockets, the way it is printed, we would also like to add foil stamping and embossing as part of the folder option.
The problem is the price varies depending on the qty ordered, this is making it very difficult for me to setup the product.
I use the option, the parent option etc, but is there a better way or a more efficient method of achieving this.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Eg:

Folder Style (Standard, Letter, Legal, Custom)?
# of pockets (One, Two)?
Stock Grade (Coated, Linen, Laid, Plainfield)?
Stock Colour (Red, Green, Blue, White)?
Additional Operation (Foil, Emboss, Foil-Emboss)?
Qty (100,250,500,1000,1500,2000)?
etc etc.

My problem is that the per unit cost of 100 pieces is different to 250 which is different to 500. The price also depends on the stock they choose, the folder style, if it foils or embosses, basically so many variables. Any ideas.

The only way I thought of doing this besides custom programming is, to linearly go down the line with options and parent options.

If someone would be kind enough to give me some ideas. I will also forward this to the support department.

Thanks.

Isn't that the simplest way using "Options & Components" something along the lines of :
Product = Folder
Product Option (required)= Folder Style
Product Folder Style Sub-option (required) = Grade
Product Folder Style Sub-option (required) = Pockets
Product Folder Style Sub-option (required) = Colour
Product Folder Style Sub-option (required) = Additional Operation

This then creates a unit price per item which you multiply with your final sub component:
Product Folder Style Sub-option (required) = Quantity

I am not sure I follow? Could you explain a bit further Ned please? Sub-Option how does that get setup?

By sub-option I meant subcomponent. Sorry for the confusion.

But looking at it further try just product options and use the parent option setting so that the next option needs the previous one.

You might have to put "Quantity" at the top however?

I understand, and I could have Qty as the starting question, and use the Parent option, the only glitch I see with this setup is if the customer wants to change ONLY the qty, then he has to answer ALL the questions following the qty, again.

Basically what I have to do is find how to tie the qty to the various options. Cost = Qty * (various options), this I think is the trick.

I have sent this to support and am waiting for their input.

If you have any ideas Ned please suggest it.
