I would suggest updating to version 3.4.5. It's clean and what you're missing are the messages. I'm not sure as to why they didn't feed, but you'd need to update your sql

I'm not sure how to update i click update button in admin it takes me to the download free evaluation copy page

you need to download and replace all php files in your directory via ftp. Then go to the system upgrade and it will replace the button with a upgrade button
