We are about to pull the trigger in deciding a new default core cart system for our Ecommerce projects. ViArt is the leader so far. I read the feature list on 3.7 and some of those things are very important to us. Reading this thread worries me a bit. First it was planned for January, then February, then last post was April 8 and here we are on May 15 and no 3.7? We have two websites we will convert to the new cart right off the bat. We would greatly prefer to start with 3.7 instead of 3.6 and then have to patch it.
I am most surprised I don't see a link for a 3.7 Beta or RC? It seems with new features there is a high likelihood of bugs so best to get your user base helping you sooner than later to uncover all the bugs.

If viart releases a beta version, there will be bugs, and these forums and the support dept. would be filled with support issues.

Despite past problems, the amount of bugs in previous releases has not been great and Viart have been extremely fast in responding to them.
This time I understand that Viart is also changing away from table-based pages and working to ensure that backward compatibility will not be compromised.
They are responding to many demands from users like us over the past two or three years; I for one feel it worth giving them the time and space to make this major step forward in design and performance.
We may see a beta version or something like it when they feel that the new product is ready. But I expect that this version will be very close to the final product.

We have to keep in mind that this particular update is not a minor in any sense.
This will be a major milestone in the progress of Viart, finally moving away from table based designs to tableless design. To me, this is a big step and a step in the right direction.

Its June.... almost 1 year after the announcment...
Does anyone know a date? or does anyone have still contact with the people from viart?

I have spoken with Anjula recently and understand that 3.7 is still under development

Is it a money issue?
because, if thats the issue, we can pay for a quicker relase.

honestly I strongly believe that it can be a security issue (license issues, security holes etc.) that is taking a lot of time on ViArt side. I made all my short-term plans according to this version. I would suggest Viart to announce an official "planned release date" even if it is a few months from now on.

I don't know, ShirtPlanet, but I would not be surprised that every business in service markets like this are having a tough time.
I am not sure how many new online retailers there are looking for software - and will pay the extra to get a quality product like this. More and more looking for freeware no doubt?
I think your suggestion is very good; there are so many who keep bleating on about Viart failing — but few people sem to give any thought to what problems may exist.
This program is too good to fall by the wayside and I am sure that many, like you and me, would pay towards the upgrade if that were to make the difference.

What did Anjula say ?

She says that they are working hard to get the new release our as soon as possible- which they anticipate will not be very long now - and that additional payments from users are not needed to get this done.

The real reason is somehow the half of what christopherO wrore above "I am not sure how many new online retailers there are looking for software - and will pay the extra to get a quality product like this.".
The real situation currently in software market, is simple that only very few are willing to pay for a script, much more to pay extra money to have it done quick.
I'm coding and selling addons modules for vBulletin since 2006 (avg $50 each). I have in market 5 mods. Till a year ago, I had an average of 10 sales a day. Last 12 months even improving my mods with double features and reducing the price by 25%, I have an average of 10 sales per ...month.
Bad but true. As long as international financial crisis exists, developing companies are trying to reduce their cost. And releasing new versions is a cost in programming hours.

Hello Maria
I agree with your point.
The recent financial crises created by the USA and the bloody Interest Based Banking, has wrecked havoc all over the world, especially for small business owners

Welcome to Month 5 of nothing new. Most of the bugs and posts are more than a year old. No updates. No follow ups.
Viart must be a small singular run company with 1-3 programming employees because the turnaround is slow, but the support is fantastic.
Is it sad that I've moved to Magento? :( I think so.
"It is in the final stages of development so a beta version should be available quite soon."
I've hearted it many times... sorry. I don't believe anything. It depends the nationallity of the person who is saying it. eg (bad to say it for my country), for Greeks "quite soon" means "at least after 3 months...". And as I know the originallity of viart, I can say that maybe for them, means much more.
Somewhere here I've read that the problem is that on the upgrade/migrade procedure. I want to believe it, but I'm just wondering why they don't release the version for those who will start a fresh installation.

If there is a beta, or problem with migrade...i will offer to be a pilot for a fresh installation;)

To: dravekx, MicroHellas, ShirtPlanet..
Just to reassure you - instead of version 3.7 Viart is testing Viart Shop 4.0 beta . We've decided to release it as version 4.0 to emphasize the completely new approach to Administration bit as long as re-written CMS system + a number of changes into core shopping scripts . The beta version is here: http://www.viart.com/downloads/viart_shop-4.0.zip
We'd appreciate if you post the bugs for version 4.0 there.
Thanks in advance.
With kind regards,

We don't know when version 4.0 will be officially released yet but we can tell you this - the beta version 4.0 is pretty stable and except for not being able to use all blocks on all pages (which we are currently working on) the shop is fully functional. So don't be afraid to start using it, we're really waiting for your feedback.
Cheers,
