Is there a safe and efficiant way to move products between different sub categories without having to manually entering it in the new, and deleting it from the old ???

I did it by downloading the products table and amending the category references. And then uploaded the amended file.
Sorry - it was a long time ago but with a little checking you will be able to find where the products table references the categories and change the numbers, I hope?
I can't think how else you could do it.
Hope this is some help.

I wonder if this would work:
You create a duplicate of a product, then link it to another category, delete it from the original category and it should now be in the new category.
I suggest you create a dummy product and try it.

This does work.
In the category click on the product "Categories" link on the right by the price.
Select a new category for the product to transfer to and "Select Category". Then "remove" the original category and "Update".
This simply changes the numerical link in the database to the category number it appears in.
