Thinking of moving viart from hosted to own server, looking for advice on type of server, provider & installation.

hi lockmaster,
I currently use a VPS (virtual private server) since I send out emails to a lot of subscribers. But it is expensive. I pay $60/month to liquidweb.com, and they have wonderful support. Whoever you get, VPS requires a lot of attention to server matters that the host takes care of with a "shared server". For me it is worth it. for most people it would be unpleasant.
Assuming you will be going to a shared server that costs $3 to $10 per month, I would strongly suggest do not go for the very cheapest. It costs money to provide good support. I only use US companies myself because I live in the US. No company is perfect, but I had good success with IPOWER.com. They have 24/7 phone support. If you look at reviews online you will see that they had some problems about 3 years ago when they changed how they host databases. But they did get through it and are very solid. No need to worry about them disappearing.
GoDaddy absolutely sucked when they were launched several years ago with a Superbowl ad. But apparently they are pretty reliable today. There are SO MANY hosting companies, but I would recommend making sure you get one that is somewhat larger who has been in business several years. The little companies usually don't even have their own servers.
As for installation, you could give ViArt's step by step instructions a try, just the free installation at first. Once you are happy with it then import your database. You have to follow ViArt's instructions carefully to install your privilege to use the full version with your domain name. If you have any doubts it may be worth hiring ViArt to do it.
good luck!

Have a look at 1&1 - lots of choice and very reliable - I have used 1&1 for over 12 years. Good CP to manage the space and e-mails.

Hi Vic140
Thanks for taking time to pass on your knowledge. My Viart hosting is down again so I'm reluctantly going to have to move it to my own server or dump Viart all together.
Thanks again
