I am adding a few custom fields via
 
Administration > Order Profile Settings > Edit Custom Field
 
I notice there are some javascript settings for field control.
 
Does anybody know how I might restrict a field entry to 50 characters. I will then add the text (max50 characters) after the field/s.
 
I need to do this so that the fields import OK into my courier consignor program which only allows 50 characters for special delivery instructions etc.

I now have the answer
 
field: maxlength=10 added to control field limits the characters to 10.
