I second this! Joomla front end with Viart back end would be great, however Viart has a CMS product that might be seen as compettion with Joomla.... Choice is a good thing though

Hello
Thanks for suggestion. However, our ViArt Shopping cart has a huge CMS module which we will improve and widen. We are not planning to usean alien software but rather to work on attuning our shopping cart to suit the needs of our clients.
With kind regards,
ViArt Support Team

Yes, I have botched site presentations in the past with other programs bolted on (perhaps they would look better if I had the skills).
An improved Viart set up is preferable.

A good programmer could integrate Joomla and ViArt easily. All it takes is a bridge for the login details and wrapping ViArt in Joomla.
Too bad that the developers do not see the beauty of integration with Joomla. Seems they are more interested in the 3% that is not open source and developing custom work.
The truth is not always easy to admit. But, ViArt does Rock.
P.S. Get enough people together and we can do it ourselves.

Mikey, if it really is that easy then best wishes with it.
For many of us, perhaps the majority, Joomla is of no interest so it is probably the right decision for Viart to put their efforts elsewhere?

Integration of Joomla and Viart would be a fairly big job, and somewhat risky. First, you would need to completely redesign every Viart template and block to meet the Joomla's css, then obscure or re-arrange features common but different to both systems (reviews, workflow, admin...) or risk complete admin and user confusion.
Then you would need to develop a bridge to authenticate users. The best approach would be to implement an open standard within Viart (LDAP, OpenID, ir GMail) then integrating through the standard Joomla distribution plugins.
To do any complex integration with Joomla, you need support from their development and user community. You won't get much support for a closed application. (So any good programmer would not likely recommend doing this ;)

Wazoodle,
you're totally right: it's a very complex thing. I don't think you will ever get best of both programs, you will have to sacrifice some functionality or accessibility of either of them to keep it steady. I have thought about having a joomla front (because of all the neat templates/apps etc) and viart backend (because it's sooo flexible), but decided it was going to cause headaches. The user/css/workflow sync will definitely give huge problems. They have tried it before bridging an os commerce fork, which I used for a while. I don't think I have ever seen a component that was more buggy than this one. updates/hacks every other day to fix things and it never really ran smoothly... Maybe it should be the other way around: develop something for viart framework that integrates plugins more easy. and then convert joomla components and other code snippets to viart. anyone interested in this? maybe we can work together in this...

lets evolve viart and let joomla rest?

I would agree with Anjula with this.
Its just not wise to use a 3rd party CMS when Viart has its own built it, which to me, is quite good. Viart should concentrate on strengthening and improving its own CMS rather than waste time on implement a port for Joomla.
If a person wants to use Joomla, they can buy a shopping cart which supports Joomla integration and they are many out there.
My vote is to rid Joomla supporters for even trying to start with this discussion.

For those who are really eager for Joomla compatibility should hire a Developer to integrate Viart with Joomla

We do Joomla work, it's not for the feint of heart. Joomla is like a great comp-sci project; standards based, open, creative and flexible. But it's a million miles away from being a great commercial application - laissez faire development attitudes, standards trump utility, support and performance is in the realm of hopeless.
Very few stores require a full blown CMS, then need a simple way to publish content related to what they sell. Viart is 'good enough' at this today. Viart's time is better spent polishing and finishing documentation and ecommerce related functionality.

I agree heartily. ViArt should concentrate on its own CMS and other functionality. The main reasons folks might want Joomla! integration include the huge number of existing templates available for Joomla! There are very few for ViArt. With version 3.7 which will discard the old-fashioned table-based layouts, the door is open for modern designs and hopefully some excellent designers will step up to expand the template offerings.
See also my thread about the possibility of adding ViArt to the available set of templates that the excellent Artisteer Web design automation software can create and export. With such a great design tool at our disposal, there would really be practically zero reason for ViArt users to ever need something like Joomla! integration.
