Is it using Friendly URL or Meta Keywords / Meta Title / Meta Description?

Take this from someone who knows. To explain in detail would
take several pages and more. I will point out a few things to help you get started.
 
 
Search Engines Want To Rank High:
 
1. Established sites - been around for a period of years.
2. Content - not just a description of your product, but much more in detail.
3. Links that relate to your site and products pages.
4. If the links come from any big sites.
5. Activities with Internet communities.
 
What You Can Do - Just To Get Started:
1. Read a few SEO topics. At HolleyLand you can find some videos on SEO

2. Create some standard HTML pages outside the cart that point to a particular product. Key word sensitize to the product.
 
3. Maintain: Meta Keywords / Meta Title / Meta Description.
I say this lightly, do not over work yourself in this area.
Pay more attention the the actual wording of the text content will have more benefits.
 
Learn From Example:
 
We started HolleyLand.com about a month ago as a source of ViArt shopping cart and CMS. Very young site! Not much at this point, but growing.
 
1. Raking not high but we do have ViArt link to HolleyLand.com, this helps in the ranking.
 
2. Content come from various outside source as a base, we'll begin adding our own content in the coming month.
 
3. Myself active in ViArt forum. Guest what search engines pickup on this.
 
4. If you do visit HolleyLand.com, you see that that the actual INDEX page is html not part of Viart cart.
 
5. Furthermore, the index page is divided into 2 section;
A. The first, leads to Viart and its content "DO IT YOURSELF".
B. The second leads to plain html and flash for "Professional Service."
 
If you inspect HolleyLand site you'll see the interlocking of the cart to the html index. Believe it or NOT we at Holleyland have been pick-up by Google in short period of time.
 
I Say This To Point Out:
1. We near the beam by focusing on ViArt.
2. The contents are focus.
3. Interaction on the Internet community this posting.
4. ViArt old and establish link to HolleyLand.

There is so much to say, on the subject search engine ranking that we could have a fireside chat for days.
 
In the begin when the Internet was young and search engine were not so highly sophisticated it was very easy. My first site rank in the first page of search engines. In time the site lost the position but remain in 1st or 2nd pages of search engine results.
 
Then the crowd came, follow by Google and things change. No longer did Goporta rank anywhere. For days and night I update the meta tags, cram key words, and jump every time a new standard for websites were set by search engines.
 
It became so dishearten after all my efforts I was getting NO WHERE. I decided to use Google adsence for the site to be seen. Then when about writing product description for humans
and forgot about search engines.
 
The Pressure became unreal as the big boys bidding jump from .35 cents to nearly $1.50 per click, monthly expense 450.00 to 500.00 USD.
 
Key words like "Vatican Museum Tour" or "Santa Marie delle Grazie" and so forth not much leeway in replace key words, you either have it or not.
 
What happen next to my surprise, Goporta currently ranks number 2 on the first page results under the Vatican itself above 858,000 other pages. The same hold true for other museums throughout Italy. Not only for Google but Yahoo as well. The adsence expense as drop to under 35.00 dollars per month. Since it wasn't necessary to promote pages that were already ranking high.
 
I say all this for 1 reason only, not to promote myself or holleyland. For a new person entering the world of Internet and e-commerce if he/she takes what has been outline and transfer the principal to their site or products will do more in time then meta tags or jumping to the next tune.
 
PLUS:
1. Offer a GOOD product.
2. Tell the customer whats the advantages.
3. Outstanding customer support.
4. Issue refunds immediately.
5. Clean well design site.
 
Word of mouth will also boost you business.

Yeah, same here. Our customer base is now in the upper thousands, so we're quite satisfied with HOW we have marketed, which is mostly word of mouth and a very little msn advertising in the beginning.

I do utilize the newsetters and other features of the viart system including loyalty points and so forth to increase business volume. It's not all about the marketing outside, but even the marketing inside (on-site promotions and advertising)

Interesting, I used AdWords for a while and found that they cost me considerably more than the revenue received. Even allowing for referrals it would take too long to recover the investment so I have stopped that.
 
I have quite good Google rankings, as much for being in a niche market as for any skills I guess.
 
But I do have some excellent links on my sites which help.
 
But, yes, I agree the referrals route work well which is the motivation for the proposed feature: "Introduce a friend - with a reward ".
