We would like to disable reviews per product as some products are upgrades and a review not applicable.
 
I've not found the setting, is it at all possible?

Hi DickS - I think you will find that the reviews are on or off for everything

how do you turn them off on mass?

in Administration > Products > Products Settings
- go down to Reviews Settings : Allow Products Reviews
