Ive seen a couple requests about this an no answer as to how it works. I have a personal server running the store and have no clue how to setup an email server. I've tried multiple SMTP servers and nothing works via viart. ( Gmail, unlimited, yahoo, aim, hotmail, pegasys, etc. )
 
Anyone have a clue for an easy way to set this up and make it work without the hassle of a personal email server?

 
none of these hosted services will send your domains mail due for spam / security reasons
 
you need a server capable of sending out mail from your domain
 
you might be able to get Google Apps Gmail (http://www.google.com/a/)to work but I haven't found it that easy.
 
what "personal server" are you running? why not spend the $5 a month and get a virtual hosted account?

Most server control panels have easy email setup, for instance the email handling program "Horde" is very common. I found once I set up support@mysite.com as a valid email address and identified it in the ViArt Help Center, it started working. I think by default everything worked through sendmail, which is usually pre-installed by most hosting companies.
 
I admit I wouldn't know where to start on trying to get ViArt working with gmail or yahoo, but if you are doing an online store, don't you want to have a "real" email address for customer confidence?

In reply to dravekx, it would be helpful if you could let us know what operating system you are using, the server and whether you are using it for local testing or for a live site?
