read a post on www.sitepoint.com in the e-commerce forum
I remember you were checking out viart at the same time as me.. I ended up trying out avactis for a while, but a few months later came back and bought viart.
I looked at dozens of solutions and didn't find many that had the well thought out features this product has.

I searched with Google.
I had been using Squirrel Cart (still do for my original site www.malikonline.co.uk) but could not use PayPal pro UK - SC had PayPal Pro US version but had no intention of adding the UK code.
SC would do custom coding but I felt that this feature should be there as a normal feature given that they had the US version.
I also had problems with accounting for a growing business and the prospect of good sales analysis and reporting was very attractive. For this I was pleased to pay for some custom work on VAT and the reports.
I realised how much more Viart had to offer and how I could dramatically improve the customer experience so I set up www.malikstores.co.uk with this software.

I tested almost all of the PHP Shopping carts which provided either a Trial version or a Free version (Open Source).
All of them were missing the features which I was looking for.
My present OScommerce cart is heavily modded so i needed the same features to be present in the new cart.
Oscommerce started to give out errors and issues.
I remember installing around all the famous and not so famous carts and tested everyone of them until I found Viart.
I cant remember exactly, how did i found out about Viart as I was searching frantically.
Colin, yes, i did post at Sitepoint forums regarding Viart but I dont remember your nick.
Whats your nick at sitepoint ?

I don't remember how I found Viart. We run al old script which is no longer developed. It lacks a lot, but finding a replacement that can manage software sales with license codes was not easy.
Also we looked at all common cart systems but none had the flexibility of Viart. Viart provided:
- Many payment systems
- Full support for egoods/downloadble products
- Single and recurring payments
- PHP based, mostly open and customisable
- Multi-lingual
- Flexible coupon system
We are currently planning migration and are pretty much set. Two of our main shop systems will be migrated to Viart and finally we will have a solid platform.

I did a search for shopping carts with a helpdesk, because I see the beauty of a protected way for people to contact us, PLUS an easy way to keep track of whether we responded. I used to receive my contacts as regular emails in Outlook and it always felt out-of-control.
As I looked closer at ViArt's other features I was blown away. 3 months along I still am very happy.
