Hello,
 
Thank you for participating in the AdSense Referrals programme. We will be retiring the AdSense Referrals programme during the last week of August. After that time, AdSense Referrals code will no longer display ads.
 
If you currently use referrals, either to promote Google products or offerings from AdWords advertisers, we encourage that you take the following steps before the product is retired:
 
* Remove all referral code from your site(s): Please take a moment to remove all referral code from your sites before the last week of August, so that you can continue to effectively monetise your ad space.
* Replace your referral ads with AdSense for content ads: If you have less than three AdSense for content ad units on a page, we recommend replacing referral ad units with standard AFC ad units. This will minimise the risk of decreased AdSense earnings when the Referrals programme is retired.
* Run and save all referrals reports to your desktop: All Referrals reports will no longer be available at the end of October.

you switched from adwords to adsence, two different things.
 
Adwords is where a vendor places an ad. Adsense is for third parties to display it. from the blog link in adsense "Google Affiliate Network: As part of the integration of DoubleClick, the DoubleClick Performics Affiliate Network will now operate as the Google Affiliate Network for advertisers targeting users located in the United States. Similar to the AdSense Referrals program, the Google Affiliate Network enables publishers to apply for advertiser programs and get paid based on advertiser-defined actions instead of clicks or impressions."

Sorry, just got it wrong and meant adsense

You may have mistaken the two programs, but that's still pretty big news, shutting down the referrals program. for most people it's not a big money maker, but for some people it does provide some income, like "how to" sites. very interesting . . .

Yes Bill - there is a content program replacing this but not sure how it will work. Presumably this will mostly hit sites that are just pages of ads.
 
My point in raising this is that Google is now so important to us that we need to understand what they do and how to benefit.
