I have a shared Linux hosting account on GoDaddy. I upload all the files for ViArt to my shared server, and make sure the /includes folder is done via binary transfer.
HOWEVER, I always get this message when I try to run/install ViArt:
"Fatal error: Unable to read 20684 bytes in /home/content/l/o/g/loginadmin5290/html/raptor/includes/va_functions.php on line 0"
Please help! It's really starting to annoy me. Thank you

check your permissions for the includes folder it needs to be set to 777 all permission to be read. Hope that helps!

AmandaK: thanks for the post but that didn't work. I changed both the includes folder to 777, and va_functions.php to 777, but I still get the "Fatal error: Unable to read 20684 bytes" message.

Hello,
The problem you have faced has to do with the uploading Zend Encoded files in the 'includes' folder. Please, make sure that you have uploaded files within the 'includes' folder to your web server using BINARY mode in your FTP program. More details can be found here http://www.viart.com/faq_all
If the problem persists, submit your request to support@viart.com and provide us with your FTP details that we check the problem.
With regards,
ViArt Support Team

mr smith I tried uploading in Binary with Dreamweaver, manual FTP and the automatic install feature here over and over and it didn't work until I tried CuteFTP. How did you FTP the files?
Also here are two other GoDaddy threads pretty recent, not sure if either of these would help:
This one talks about the correct version of Zend depending on the PHP version your server is running:
And this one mentions that some have better luck on a Linux server with GoDaddy, (it's a fairly easy switch as long as your not running any other windows based scripts on the site.)
Thank you AmandaK, using CuteFTP worked. I was using FlashFXP in binary mode (for the included folder), but obviously it wasn't doing it properly.
Thanks again for everyones help

Yup!,
Try uploading using binary mode on includes folder itself will work. I tried successfully:)

Binary upload does work. Perhaps this step should be mentioned in the install process in the manual, since it is not the usual way to upload a PHP file.

I have the same problem
"Fatal error: Unable to read 28953 bytes in /hermes/bosweb/web133/b1330/sl.hankeymeal/public_html/cart/includes/va_functions.php on line 0"
I used FileZilla tu upload the files.
I understand that cuteFTP can solve this.I download it but dont know how to use the binary mode. Can someone teach me?I haven upload any file yet.
Thanks
Ned

Filezilla does work but is set to a default of ASCII transfer. My settings (Linux version) are in Edit > Settings > Transfers > File Types.
Another recomendation for those wishing to integrate FTP with Firefox is FireFTP http://fireftp.mozdev.org/
