At the moment when products are outputted, they are displayed down the page one after each other.
Is their a custom block that allows the products to be displayed in cols
Normal display of products list
Product 1
Product 2
Product 3
Product 4
Display products list in cols
Product 1 | Product 2
Product 3 | Product 4
and so on...

custom blocks would be blocks that you have created/modified (the reason of calling them custom), however there's product blocks that you can place and inside of them (via the tools option), you can select different views, and how to place them (# of columns, etc.).
