I am working with my client on a number of issues. Because of the number of products, the site is practically unmanageable for visitors. The search function is a critical function to make this site work. It just doesn't return good results.
Example: There is a product called HP 10 ink cartridge. A common search might be "HP 10", which is how the product is commonly referred to. The results bring up far too many products that are muchly unrelated. Clicking deep into the search results will eventually find the "HP 10" product. This really shouldn't be since the product name starts with these keywords.
Is there a way to correct this sort of issue with the search block tool?
Also, is there a way to use this search tool within a custom page? I want to create a single page with better navigation and have the search tool in the upper right corner. I don't know of a way to insert a block into a custom page (or really wouldn't want to because it would create poor formatting).
This is a bit of a critical issue as it is impacting the effectiveness of the site. Anything anybody can contribute to help in this situation is very appreciated.
Regards,
Shawn

Maybe you could rather create custom fields with the product type and/or product and have that selected as well.
