H as anybody found a workaround for the ciunty field.
 
I need a list of UK and Eirecounties to populate the drop down with.
 
or alternatively if that os a problem (especially EIRE) I would like to create a custom field which lands in the correct place in the forms and is not placed at the very bottom of the list. e.g after city not after country

freezer, I have the same issues as you - I have just modified the label for the field that follows City - County, Region, Province. It is not drop down but it works for me ... one reason for not creating a drop down is that I deliver across the EU and that would mean every county/dept/region for every country!!
 
As for placing special new fields where you want them — this is, sadly, lacking. They all get added at the bottom of the form. This really needs to be addressed

This should work for me also.
 
I link the fields up to my Business Post courier system e.g I create a text file that can be imported into the system.
 
If I fiddle about with static messages as you suggest I can just map the fields to the correct fields in my courier program.

p.s I think Viart have hinted they are planning on improving this

Good luck, freezer, I think you're set up may be more developed in this area than mine. I have to work on the 'keep it simple' approach as that pretty well reflects me

I hope that they are makng the changes that are necessary. I too have run into the ordering of the fields issue with custom fields.

I need the county field for tax rates.. I ended up editing php files and adding the county fields in the db and in the admin templates.. it was a real beast, so many files and different tables. That worked out but I hit a wall when attempting to calculate the right county tax rates in the customer order form. There's a lot of pressure on me to meet a deadline for this project so I simply don't have the time to keep messing around with this..

dani, under the circumstances you may be wise to talk directly to Viart?

Chris - honestly, it's unlikely Viart will do the custom coding fast enough to satisfy my employer.. also I know it would cost quite a bit.
