I'm in the process of evaluating ViArt and a few other carts, and had a question about what control I have over what comes up after someone hits "add to cart". I've seen in the live stores that some have the same item show up, with the note that the item has been added. Also some show the cart, with related items sometimes. What I would like to see is just the notation that the item was added with a list of related items. That is, no cart showing, just the related items. Is that possible with the standard installation, or would custom programming be required?

You can control the destination in the "Products Settings" area. This is a general setting.
 
In addition you can control what happens when a user opens a new account. This is done in Administration > Site Users > User Types > Customer > Profile Settings
 
However, I have changed " Redirect to page after registration" to "basket.php" but it seems to not work as the basket is not shown after registration.
