I'm looking to change to ViArt, but have never made a major site change like this before. (Have changed looks and such, but never complete shopping cart.) Any advice for how to build it in the "background" without messing up my current site? There is no information in the installation section of the manual, so I'm feeling a little stuck. I know enough to be a little more than dangerous (built my current site from scratch) but this feels like a huge step for me.
Also, is there a list anywhere of who on this forum offers ViArt web design, etc.?
It does concern me that people post using a name that can confuse. It is very bad practice,
Viarts Team is NOT the same as the Viart Team of course and these people should make this more clear!!!

Thanks for clarifying, Christopher.
We think it shouldn`t confuse people who may read. "ViArts" is not the same as "Viart". We hope it is clear now
Best Regards,
Viarts Team

I'm with Christopher. I've been on this forum for many years (late 2006). I'm very aggitated to see someone saying they're Viarts team, when clearly, they're just a John Doe. Can't see why you cannot come up with your own name.
As a reminder, if it is indeed a posting by ViArt, the're nickname/posting name will show in Blue Font.

I think that it is because you sign off in the same way as the genuine team does.
I just think you should be more transparent and not use a style that is so like Viart themselves - it just appears sneaky.

Sneaky... it's just plain old shady practice. They're using the ViArt logo on their site as well.
It's funny they're using ViArt, and yet they have vbulletin as the forum. Way to have people need to sign in multiple systems on the same site.

Perhaps, Dan, fellow users who care about integrity will now, at least, be able to make informed judgment and shun this Russian site if they feel the way we do.
Chris.

If mr. TOCDCO had no problems with his monitor he could notice John Doe appearance at http://www.viart.com/forums.php two years ago in 2009
What for using vbulletin as the forum it is more comfortable for more than 2500 registered users and no problems with sign in.

Any advice for me building a ViArt shop in the background of my current site (non-ViArt) without touching my current site would be appreciated.
Thanks!

What is the problem? Why not to install Viart shop in subfolder of your current site? www.yoursite.com/shop/

This is certainly an option - probably the best one. However, want to make sure it is not going to overwrite my current home page and worried that enabling the mod_rewrite feature will somehow mess up my current site. I may just build it elsewhere. Not sure. Thanks.

You originally said " change to ViArt" and this is fairly simple.
I think the best method is to create a local private server. Install ViArt on that and then when you have the design and tweaks you want right then transfer the new site to your public server and readjust the urls etc to cope.
The advantage of this method is you can redevelop off line, change versions and test them etc without affecting your public server.
The type of local server you need is determined by your local machine and there software bundles for most. "LAMP"s for Linux, "WAMP"s for Windows and "MAMP"s for MAC.
.. but then you probably know this?

Hi Ned,
Thanks for the great input. That is probably the best way to do it, you are right.
Sadly, I'm not familiar with a local private server (I run Windows XP at the moment) but will start looking into it further so I can do build the site this way. (While I did build my current site from scratch, I uploaded everything to my "live server" so that the php and database portions would run. I simply created bogus files to test. Like I said... I know enough to be a little more than rather dangerous! LOL)
