I know this is a little off-topic for VIART, but I am hoping someone out there with more programming experience can help me.
 
Can someone point me or guide me through how to set up a development environment so that I can version track any changes I make to my viart system installed on my local dev workstation.
 
So far I have just been keeping copies of the original base install of viart and then periodically zipping my viart folders. (**SMACK**)
 
Then to see what I have been doing I have been running a diff program.
 
I know and realise this is far from ideal, but I am not familiar with setting up things like SVN and NetBeans and the like.
 
All help will really be appreciated
