Hi I have almost completed my 3 sites. I have set up 3 currencies ( fixed prices) and its starting to look good. Now what i do want to ask is , are there some things that are not independent with multisites? Let me give you a prime example. I have changed lets call it my mother site some static messages. Now though i select my second site in admin it looks as though the static messages are not independent but remain the same through out the 3 sites.. I would be interested in any one else's experiences here with what you cannot change or can! thanks PaulWink

To change the static messages so that they are not the same as the "mother site" on the other 2 sites. You need to log into admin via the url for the second or third site and not the mother site.

e.g

/Site1.com/admin/admin.php
/Site2.com/admin/admin.php
/Site3.com/admin/admin.php

IMPORTANT: You need to log out of site 1 admin and then be sure you type the address for site 2 admin and then log in. That way you will be administering site 2 and not site 1. If you don't log despite entering site 2's address you will find that after the clicking on a link you revert back to site 1.

That aside you could always manually change the messages files via FTP in the messages folder for each particular site.

Hope this makes sense !

What a great bit of advice! Thanks so much. I hadn't realized and certainly haven't read it anywhere that i had to do this.I though just selecting the site name in the drop down was enough. I can hopefully go live with the other 2 over the next 2 days. www.welcomerecordings.com
www.welcomerecordings.com/uk
www.welcomerecordings.com/euro
thanks again PaulYahoo!

Hi back again.. when i change in my euro store admin the countries
http://www.welcomerecordings.com/euro/admin/admin_countries.php

for example i don't want USA to show in the euro site, the USA doesn't show in the US site as well. (www.welcomerecordings.com)

Is it possible to do this ie have different countries for the different sites?

Hi, I don't think this is possible.

You could create a custom field to handle the country choices.

(and not use the predifined country field by unticking this field)

You can create these fields (1 for each site) so it only displays the countries you want for each site.

This however does limit the shipping options if you have the shipping calculated by any country settings.

As for the default currency you can still set the country field in global settings for each site which will then decide the currency by default based on this countries settings.

Dave

You may also want to consider changing the name of your admin folder to something else as this was recommended by Viart to avoid security breaches - check forum for security issues etc

Thanks again Dave. Really appreciate your advice.Regarding the security issue, i did actually have a couple of odd things happening the other dy.For example a 100% discount was added to one of my products! Fortunately i spotted it. But i am certain i couldn't have done that by accident. I was actually no where near the product edit section for days...I will check out what i need to do..

Oh yes there was something else..in order for everything to run ok i was told to basically copy all my uk end euro site folder over to secure_html folder as well. What i have realized is i ran out of space and had to purchase an extra 1gb of space for the server.but iwhen i copied over i of course copied over all my preview folder that contains large files of audio and video.I realize now that will have made the difference.I guess copying over the preview files is a waste of space because they will not be accessed under the secure server..Have you had experience of duplicating stuff over to the secure folder.? It's just that it might save me the extra annual $374 i just paid for the extra 1gb space
thanks Paul

Hi Paul,

No sorry I did not encounter this problem as I have only 1 set of files all in the same directory and have ticked the boxes in global settings so that the available pages are served from the https:// domain of the same name.

If I understand you correctly your secure pages are delivered from a different directory to your non secure ones. Is it not possible for you to change the directory for the secure domain to be the same as your non secure ones. That way all pages secure or non secure could be served from the same directory and be a lot easier to manage for sure in the future.

Which should mean you are OK for space also. I am pretty sure this should be possible. You would need to change your webserver configuration either via your server administration area or directly by FTP in your httpd.conf file if your access privileges permit you to do so.

Hi Dave
my secure dirctory is actaully in the same dircctory.
I have www.welcomerecordings.com
www.welcomerecordings.com/uk
www.welcomerecordings.com/euro

and https://www.welcomerecordings.com

The 3 sites point to this same https address.
There were some issue and support helped by suggesting i transfer all of my carts to the https directory. This sorted out the various problems i was having. But as i am not all that up on directories etc. it is only a few days later..now..that i am wondering if transferring all my audio video files into the https directory was necessary. I guess its not though files directories are strange and Rather strange beasts to me and i don't want to mess anything up!

If the secure pages are served from the same directory as you say above why the need for an extra directory?

Probably best if you ask Viart if they have suggested this is what you needed to do.

Explain that you are short of space and ask them why was this necessary in the first place.

Footnote: I have only learnt this stuff myself recently but all I did was tick all the boxes in Global settings, typed in the https url also and then all the selected pages were served via https without the need to copy files to another folder just for https!

Hi Dave
yes. I think the complication has come about because i wanted to have the 3 carts as individual as possible ie different currencies etc. I think this must have complicated the issue or something. There were a few big issues as i developed each cart and so i was advised to replicate exactly on the https the 2 other carts to avoid problems i was experiencing. That did sort it out.

**yes i did exactly the same but it didn't work ...
thanks for all your advice..yes i will contact them about the large files and see if i can safely get rid of them!

in the case anyone is interested... For the 3 different carts i have the UK cart charging a fixed £2 per item carriage. In the USA/ EURO cart i charge $3.5 / €3.5 per item. Now as far as i can make out you cannot set carriage charges independently in each site for the same item. Therfore i created a copy of each item ( a great facility of the viart cart is the ability to do that) . It adds to the item title ' duplicate ' so you know the item that is the copy. Then i simply made the duplicate copy live in the uk site only deselected it for the US Euro sites and changed the postage accordingly. Worked a treat... Go on someone tell me there is a drop down somewhere to enable different postage rates for the different carts..i will Crying

Well... rates are calculated based on where someone lives anyhow...

not really the way its set up - i have a brochure and the postage rates per item are fixed -euroland = 3.50 US and world $3.50 UK £2 all per item. In the products field you specify a postage rate for that product which is what i have done. Are you saying i could specify a country and select say this per item postal charge and independently for each multistore?

Hi

Can you please give me advise on using multiple currencies (totally independent so that we can set up AU$ pricing on products/options for the /au version of the site and /uk version of the site in £'s?

We keep on having the site convert amounts from the base currency? Doesn't seem to work properly. We're using latest version.

Cheers
